As well as custom building bikes from our stock of vintage bike frames, we also offer our services & expertise if you already have a frame that you want building up. This is what happened with this stunner. Ed came in with his Look KG96 Team Replica frame, and we kinda got excited.
We often have our work cut out in this situation, as our normal process is to start putting the shopping list together, rummaging through our huge stock of vintage parts & then sourcing any necessary bits to ensure everything's from the correct period.
In this case Ed had done all the sourcing himself with an astonishing selection of Mavic parts, not all from the same era but we'll let him off as we know how hard to source (and pricey) Mavic parts can be.
There were still a few parts that Ed needed, and luckily we had a selection of suitable bits in stock, such as the iconic Look Ergo adjustable stem & New Old Stock Vittoria Special Pro tubs.
A lot of Mavic parts from this era were outsourced, and one brand who manufactured for Mavic was Modolo, who made brake levers for them. We didn't have Mavic ones, but had just arrived back from a buying trip with these stunning NOS Modolo brake levers when came into the shop. Ed had the pleasure of opening the wonderful old packaging & they went into the build drawer.
Ed had a wonderful set of Mavic Cosmic wheels in the bag already, and he'd even gone to the trouble of sourcing some new decals for them. Full marks for dedication.
As you can imagine, the key wasn't only to stick closely to period-correct(ish) parts, there was also a focus on keeping the weight down. These Modolo carbon fibre shifters & the Selle Italia Flite titanium saddle helped in that area.
So there you have it, another build to go into our history books. This was one was a lot quicker than last Tim's Bontekoe we showed you last week, but no less enjoyable that's for sure.

We're incredibly excited to see you all at this year’s Eroica Britannia, this is our first year at the new site in the heart of the wonderful Peak District.
