Quite possibly the most sought after name on the vintage cycling scene, Colnago earned the status due to the genius of it’s founder, Ernesto Colnago. From the humble beginnings in the 1950s, Colnago became the maker that everyone looked to, and the bike that every cyclist wanted to own. This is likely due to their dominance on the world racing circuit, and in no doubt due to the success of the long standing partnership with the great Eddy Merckx.
The Colnago Super is the model that put Colnago on the map in 1968, and it was the bike Merckx rode to many victories, most famously under the bright orange colour of the Molteni team. It may be hard to imagine now but the Colnago Super revolutionised racing frame design, Ernesto saw away with the heavyweight tubing and sluggish geometry and introduced a lighter, stiffer and shorter frame that made champions even bigger champions, and continued doing so for over 20 years. It truly is the frame that changed the game.
This model dates back to the post-Molteni years of the mid 1970s, 1976 to be precise. The components seem to go on a journey through Campagnolo’s full range at the time, from Nuovo Gran Sport through to Super Record but mainly consisting of the former. The paint appears to be original, and although not without signs of age it's wonderful to see, and we’re sure you’ll agree the bike is a stunning authentic example of this iconic bike.
If you're looking for a bike to ride in L'Eroica, Anjou Velo, Velo Retro etc then look no further, this Colnago Super is the perfect choice. It’s fully compliant with the rules and will certainly turn heads at any of the retro rides out there.
The bike's been taken apart, inspected & re-built in our workshop so we know everything's working as it should. The frame is straight & true without any dents or dings - please inspect the photos for cosmetic condition, we've photographed the bike in detail so you can see the exact condition before purchasing.
