Quite possibly the most sought after name on the vintage cycling scene, Colnago earned the status due to the genius of it’s founder, Ernesto Colnago. From the humble beginnings in the 1950s, Colnago became the maker that everyone looked to, and the bike that every cyclist wanted to own. This is likely due to their dominance on the world racing circuit, and in no doubt due to the success of the long standing partnership with the great Eddy Merckx.
The Colnago Mexico owes its introduction to that very man, built to celebrate Merckx’ infamous hour record in 1972, and it was 10 years later that another household name, Guiseppe Saronni, made this ‘New’ Mexico model famous in 1982.
The frames were built using Columbus SL tubing but the Nuovo Mexico is identified by the unique crimping on the top tube and the down tube. This special technique paved the way for the famous Gilco tubing used on the Colnago Masters later that decade and has now become an iconic part of Ernesto’s repertoire which is often imitated but never duplicated, as they say.
Now’s your chance to join the legends and own the real deal. This one’s the particularly special 2nd generation Ofmega Premier Edition, their top of the range gear set in the 1980s and the ‘signature edition’ was produced especially for Colnagos with Ernesto’s signature all over the place. Highly regarded as some of the very best kit available at the time, some say even better than Campagnolo! As brakes weren’t included in the groupset, Universal were kind enough to bring a Colnago signature edition brake set to compliment the Ofmega kit, and 3ttt joined the party with a stunning pantographed stem to finish it all off.
If you're looking for a bike to ride in L'Eroica, Anjou Velo, Velo Retro etc then look no further, this Colnago Nuovo Mexico is the perfect choice. It’s fully compliant with the rules and will certainly turn heads at any of the retro rides out there.

Born out of a pure passion for cycling, Oliviero Gallegati introduced Somec to the world back in 1973. When we say world, we actually mean the lucky few from the small town of Lugo in the Romagna region of Italy who had the pleasure of being the first cyclist to own these magnificent bicycles. With a name derived from the ‘Societa Meccahnica’ (Mechanic’s society), it’s no surprise that technology was at the forefront of everything that Somec produced, and over the years they became famous not only for their exquisite paint but also for what could be described as futuristic design features, such as the arched brake bridge and integrated seat collar. This kind of detail results in a rare ability to look at a Somec and know that it’s going to be a killer bike to ride, it sounds weird but we’re yet to be proven wrong.
The Air is a very special model, combining Columbus SLX with their profiled Air tubing, the reason it gets the name of course and one of Somec's finest frames available at the time. With wonderful cut-outs & engravings all over the place, a generous helping of chrome & the trademark Somec paintwork it's a real work of art. We don't always see top-end Italian bikes with Shimano kit, but the Sante group was a desirable one back in the 80s and Somec were noted for their support of the Japanese kit, so it's actually quite refreshing to see and certainly makes for an impressive build.
