Though most famous for their components, notably bars, stems and saddles Cinelli have a long history of building very high quality bikes and frames too. Combining their racing experience, engineering knowledge and entrepreneurship Cino, Giotto and Arrigo Cinelli build their own components, began distribution of parts and bikes and started to build their own bikes in the late 1940s, persuading famed craftsman Luigi Valsasina to join them from Bianchi. Under Valsasina's expert gaze Cinelli produce some of the most exquisite bikes of the time, featuring many frame components of their own design that were used far and wide. Following a take-over in 1979 by Columbus founder Antonio Colombo, the company diversified first into BMX and then the emerging MTB market, the early 80s also saw the introduction of the Laser frame, a world-beating aerodynamic concept that despite its hugely limited availability made a massive impact.

This early 90s Cinelli mountain bike frame is from the time when Gary Fisher was assisting with the design and importing Cinelli MTBs to the US. The frame dates to around 1990 or 1991 which was the start of the relationship, the over-sized 1 1/4" threaded headset was being championed by Gary at the time. With this size tubing and at this weight, this would be a Columbus Acciaio Nivacrom Oversize tubed frame, the bottom bracket is Italian thread and the frame has mudguard and rack eyelets. The finish is typically Cinelli of this period incorporating splatter, fade and neon graphics - just add Oakley Mumbos for that pure early 90s MTB look.

The frame's been carefully checked by one of our mechanics to confirm the alignment's correct and there's no damage to the threads. If there are any minor issues worth noting we will do so in the overview section below. Please take a good look at the detailed photos so you can see the cosmetic condition of the frame before you buy.
