Masi bicycles have a long and interesting history and are renowned as one of the top builders throughout the golden age of the bicycle. Started by the master craftsman and former race winner Faliero Masi in the Vigorelli velodrome in Milan, the business moved over to the USA in the 1970s where they employed the legendary Mario Confente to run the workshop. Producing some of the most sought after lightweight race bikes of the 1970s, Masi were raced to victory by cycling legends such as Fausto Coppi, Jacques Anquetil and Eddy Merckx.

When Masi unveiled the 3V Volumetrica in 1981 it was a revelation. Incredibly stiff, incredibly pretty and incredibly expensive, Masi had done something few other people had managed in the last 80 years - revolutionise the manufacture of the steel bicycle frame. Using pre-cast lugs that fitted internally to oversize tubes, Alberto Masi realised he could build a super-stiff frame whilst keeping it the same weight as a standard steel frame. The 3V Volumetricas were originally built in Masi's Italian Vigorelli workshop but production was later taken up by Masi USA too.

This 3V Volumetrica is absolutely stunning and has been refinished to a very high standard. The full chrome fork isn't one we've seen supplied with this model before, so it may well be a later addition. Nonetheless it's a wonderfully fresh example of this iconic frame. The Campagnolo headset is included with the frame.

The frame's been carefully checked by one of our mechanics to confirm the alignment's correct and there's no damage to the threads. If there are any minor issues worth noting we will do so in the overview section below. Please take a good look at the detailed photos so you can see the cosmetic condition of the frame before you buy.

Condition Notes - The chrome on the chainstay looks to be original as it's not as bright and shiny as the forks.
