Established in Italy in 1939, Olmo are still producing bicycles today, however their heyday of technologically advanced, lightweight race winning bikes was through the 70s and 80s. Guiseppe 'Gepin' Olmo was a very quick rider in his day, at one point holding the hour record, and as was the standard career trajectory of the time once he retired he started a bike brand bearing his name. The Olmo company grew quickly and diversified into other industries through the years, and whilst they produced a large number of bikes they were responsible for building some incredibly high end ones too.
Introduced to the world around 1984, the Competition Aero Leader combined Olmo's top of the range Competition frame details with the (at the time) revolutionary aerodynamic features of a shaped fork crown, aero shaped seat stays and top mounted shifters. Built from lightweight Columbus tubing these higher end models were available in whatever configuration the customer wanted and there seems to be a wide variety of colours, decals, braze-ons and features to choose from. The neat internal routing of the rear brake cable and internal 'round the bottom bracket axle' gear cable routing combine to make this a very sleek machine that looks fast standing still.
Combining a number of interesting details, this frame still sports its original paint job (with some touch ups) and what looks like all of the optional frame details available at the time: Air fork crown; internally routed rear brake cable, aero shaped seat stays, top mounted aero gear shifters with internal routing, two sets of water bottle holes and Campagnolo Portacatena dropouts. These details seem to indicate a fairly early bike in the run of the Aero Leader even if the serial number puts it later - Olmo can be one of those brands that are hard to pin down to a certain year!
If you're taking part in L'Eroica or a similar vintage event, this frame is of the correct age, so you won't be disqualified for being a rule breaker!
The frame's been carefully checked by one of our mechanics to confirm the alignment's correct and there's no damage to the threads. If there are any minor issues worth noting we will do so in the overview section below. There's a handy shipping calculator on the shopping cart page so you can see the cost of postage as soon as you've added it to your basket. Your order will be carefully packed and sent with tracking & insurance, we despatch most orders within 2-3 working days but larger items can often take a little longer to process.
We accept returns, please notify us within 14 days and ensure the item arrives back with us no later than 30 days after the order was received.
We don't charge VAT, however, if buying from outside of the UK please remember that there may be import duties to pay upon receipt (even with the new post-Brexit trade deals, some countries may still charge you import VAT & clearance fees, so please bear this in mind when purchasing).
