Chesini have been building bikes by hand in Veneto since the 1920s, and are still today custom building some technologically advanced, finely crafted steel frames. The company grew from humble origins and had a period of racing success through the 1960s, choosing to concentrate fully on hand-built custom bikes shortly after. Chesini built some incredibly beautiful but also innovative frames, the X-Uno was one of the first frames to route all of the cables internally and their patented 'Innovation' frames dropped the top tube for a stiffer front triangle.
Although the Gran Premio was the entry level bike in Chesini's line up, it was still built by one of the most innovative small scale builders in Italy, which is quite a statement. The Gran Premio was produced through the 1960s right up until today, and like all of Chesini's bikes since the 1970s, custom sizes, paint and braze-on options were available.
Built from Columbus SL, this frame dates from the mid 1980s. With typical Chesini attention to detail and the famous engraved head tube logo, it shares the DNA of a super bike but for a more wallet friendly price. This compact, reasonably subtle (for Chesini!) frame will build up into a lovely quality period Italian road bike.
If you're taking part in L'Eroica or a similar vintage event, this frame is of the correct age, so you won't be disqualified for being a rule breaker!
The frame's been carefully checked by one of our mechanics to confirm the alignment's correct and there's no damage to the threads. If there are any minor issues worth noting we will do so in the overview section below. Please take a good look at the detailed photos so you can see the cosmetic condition of the frame before you buy.
