Masi bicycles have a long and interesting history and are renowned as one of the top builders throughout the golden age of the bicycle. Started by the master craftsman and former race winner Faliero Masi in the Vigorelli velodrome in Milan, the business moved over to the USA in the 1970s where they employed the legendary Mario Confente to run the workshop. Producing some of the most sought after lightweight race bikes of the 1970s, Masi were raced to victory by cycling legends such as Fausto Coppi, Jacques Anquetil and Eddy Merckx.
Introduced in 1975 the Prestige was an update to the world-beating Gran Criterium and was produced in Italy in limited numbers, as with all Masis they are extremely finely crafted and highly desirable. Hand built to order but not readily available, the Prestige is the pinnacle of 1970s Italian frame-building.
This particular Prestige dates from the late 70s as indicated by the early Campagnolo Super Record parts and top tube cable guides. The eclectic, Italian based spec with Galli brakes and some subtle machining and enamel in-filling results is a very pretty, and very light for it's time race machine.
If you're taking part in L'Eroica or any other vintage event, this bike is of the correct age, so you won't be disqualified for breaking the rules!
The bike's been fully dis-assembled and professionally re-built by one of our mechanics. The frame's straight and true, and everything's been carefully cleaned and re-lubricated where necessary. If there are any minor issues worth noting we will do so in the overview section below. Please take a good look at the detailed photos so you can see the cosmetic condition of the bike before you buy.OVERVIEW
