HELP SECTION

Steerer Type - this is the outside diameter and it must match your headset & stem. Threaded steerers require threaded headsets & quill stems, whereas threadless ones need a threadless headset & ahead stem.

Quill Stem Size - only for threaded forks. The inside diameter of the steerer must match the outside diameter of the stem shaft. 22.2 mm was standard everywhere except France where it was 22.0 mm. By the 1990s it was all standardised and the diameters increased.

Fork Crown Race - the outside diameter at the reinforced base of the steerer, this is where the headset crown race is seated so these need to match in size.

Brake Drop - for caliper brakes only, this is measured from the centre of the brake mounting hole to the centre of the wheel rim in a straight line, using a wheel of the relevant size.

Brake Fixing - calipers either require a centre hole of around 8 mm diameter if they’re fixed using an allen key nut, or a smaller hole around 6 mm for a hex nut fixing. Cantilevers and V-brakes require post mounts that sit below the wheel’s rim, whereas U-brakes and centre-pull specific mounts sit above the rim.

Steerer Length - for threaded steerers, your frame’s head tube length + the stack height of your headset is the minimum length you require (minus a few mm as you need a small gap at the top). For threadless, add the stem stack height to that measurement. Any excess can either be cut off or spacers can be added.

Headset Thread - if the steerer is threaded it's generally recommended to match to the headset thread, although technically you can mix and match (unless you have French or the obscure old Raleigh threads, in which case you need to stick to that type).

Axle to Crown - measured from the centre of the axle point straight up vertically to the fork crown, both top and bottom are provided.
