With a history spanning almost a century, and with both world and Italian national champion wins, Berma are perhaps not as widely known as they should be. Hailing from Padova, Italy, Berma built very fine frames in the Italian race tradition - lightweight, aggressive, beautiful and often bedecked in the finest Italian parts from the period. Legendary contract builders Billato built for the brand during their early years too.
This Berma Professional is probably from the 1980s and is built from Italian Oria TT 0.9 tubing. The red and white graphic paint job is typically Italian and of the time, the contrasting chrome forks and drive side chainstay show great attention to detail. This is a classic Italian frameset in a smaller size and will make a vintage (or maybe even neo-retro!) build.

The Pinarello story is a magnificent one, from Giovanni Pinarello taking the Maglia Nera (Black Jersey for last place) in the 1951 Giro D’Italia to the dominance of Pinarello in the cycling world today. It truly is a fairy tale, from being left out of the 1952 Giro and taking the opportunity to open his own tiny workshop in Treviso, Italy, and from there Giovanni built the Cicli Pinarello brand from the ground up. Bit by bit the success came, and with a reputation for taking the underdogs and turning them into champions, slowly but surely Pinarello went from minnows to the giants they are today.
A mainstay in the Pinarello range for many years, the Veneto utilised their expertise in building top end race frames to construct a lower cost but still high quality frame. Often found built with a slightly heavier guage of tubing such as Columbus Aelle the Veneto was offered as a frame only option with Pinarello's usual wide choice of paint colours and finishes, and also sold as a bike with a full mid-range groupset from Shimano or Campagnolo.
This beautiful example of a Veneto is finished in classic 'Rosso Pinarello' and is built from Columbus Aelle tubing. From the end of the era of down-tube shifters, 1” forks, and steel being the material of choice, this early '90s frame represents 40 years of frame-building experience at Pinarello. In really nice condition, with a fully chromed replacement fork.

Quite possibly the most sought after name on the vintage cycling scene, Colnago earned the status due to the genius of it’s founder, Ernesto Colnago. From the humble beginnings in the 1950s, Colnago became the maker that everyone looked to, and the bike that every cyclist wanted to own. This is likely due to their dominance on the world racing circuit, and in no doubt due to the success of the long standing partnership with the great Eddy Merckx.
This later version Colnago Super Profil frame dates from around 1983 and is the same spec as Saronni used the year previously to win the World Championships. That frame is also known to some as the first version of the Nuovo Mexico – even Colnago seems unsure as to the exact details! Regardless of the precise model, it is a beauty and showcases why Colnago was so sought after then, and still is now. With specially crimped Columbus SL top and down tubes and crimped chainstays, all providing extra stiffness, this was a proven race-winner. In its original pearl metallic paint, this is begging for a full Campagnolo Super Record groupset and some hard miles.

Born out of a pure passion for cycling, Oliviero Gallegati introduced Somec to the world back in 1973. When we say world, we actually mean the lucky few from the small town of Lugo in the Romagna region of Italy who had the pleasure of being the first cyclist to own these magnificent bicycles. With a name derived from the ‘Societa Meccahnica’ (Mechanic’s society), it’s no surprise that technology was at the forefront of everything that Somec produced, and over the years they became famous not only for their exquisite paint but also for what could be described as futuristic design features, such as the arched brake bridge and integrated seat collar. This kind of detail results in a rare ability to look at a Somec and know that it’s going to be a killer bike to ride, it sounds weird but we’re yet to be proven wrong.
The Air is a very special model, combining Columbus SLX with their profiled Air tubing, which is the reason it gets its name of course. One of Somec's finest frames available at the time, with wonderful cut-outs and engravings all over the place, a generous helping of chrome, alongside the trademark Somec paintwork. A real work of art.

Fanini are a true cycling family: promotors; sponsors; team owners; sales reps; manufacturers, and amongst all of this they produced some magnificent hand built bikes. Often equal parts work of art to pure performance, Fanini built bikes that showed what Italian craftsmanship and flair could achieve. Frequently sporting Campagnolo's top end groupsets and a red paintjob, Fanini were built in low numbers throughout the 70s and 80s and are now rather rare to find.
A beautifully understated 1970s lightweight road frame from Fanini, probably made with Columbus SL tubes. Finely detailed hand-cut lugs and a slotted bottom bracket were typical of the artisanal approach to frame-building at Fanini and helped keep the weight down. The metallic burgundy paint job looks to have newer decals applied over the clear coat, and aside from some marks, is in lovely usable condition.

A formidable racer in his day, Mario Vicini had a huge amount of success on the road in Italy during the 30s and 40s, as well as a second place in the Tour de France. Racing alongside Italian greats such as Cinelli, Bartali, and Coppi, Vicini was savvy enough to start his eponymous bike shop before he had retired from racing, a well-worn path for Italian professional cyclists. After he retired, the Vicini brand grew with the opening of their own factory making all types of bikes, and then in the 1960s, famed contract builder Billato started to produce the high-end road bikes carrying the name. Known for their high levels of detail with pantographed lugs, an engraved head tube badge, and eye-catching paint, the few Vicinis still around today are highly prized.
Like a lot of small-scale brands, it is often hard to know which particular model this Vicini frame is. It is likely to be one of the top models available at the time given the amount of work that was put into the frame; all lugs are pantographed, the rear brake and rear derailleur cable routing is internal, and the rear dropouts are drilled out for weight saving. Further, the frame is built from top-end Columbus SLX tubes with a custom fade paint job over a chromed rear end and fork lowers. Regardless of the model, this is a beautifully put together Billato-built frame.

Often referenced as one of the 'big four' best Italian constructeurs, Ugo De Rosa has an unassailed reputation in the bike world. Though he only started to build frames in 1953, by 1958 he was being asked by Italian race ace Raphael Geminiani to build him a bike to compete in the Giro d'Italia. Through the 1960s, De Rosa built many bikes for individual professional riders and started to work with the iconic Faema team. By 1969, he had become the frame-builder and personal mechanic of Gianni Motta, providing frames for the whole team. A few years later, De Rosa became the personal builder and mechanic for Eddy Merckx, a professional relationship that was to last into the 1990s. He also built for Francesco Moser, and by 1974, 80% of the bikes ridden in the Giro were built by De Rosa. When Eddy Merckx wanted to start his frame-building business, De Rosa was brought on board as a technical consultant and reportedly trained Merckx's team in Belgium.
We believe this beautiful De Rosa frame to be an early '90s Professional SLX model with internally routed rear brake cable. Though precise dates and models of De Rosa frames are hard to pin down due to the lack of serial numbers, this has all the hallmarks of the Professional and is built from Columbus SLX rifled tubing with the later-style fork crown with heart cut-out. Regardless of the model, De Rosa did not build any low-end frames, and they are all manufactured to a very high degree from the best materials. This frame is finished in a classic dark metallic blue with chrome accents; it has possibly had a repaint at some point in its life, as it is in excellent condition.

The 1990s was the decade that Pinarello truly dominated, and it was during that time that the Asolo model was introduced. At the start of the 90s there were only 3 bikes available in the Pinarello catalogue; Asolo, Treviso & Montello (the latter being the top model), but do not be tricked into thinking the Asolo was ‘entry level’. Every frame was produced to the same high standard and shared their trademark ride quality of a ‘proper’ racing bike, only the tubing used differed from model to model. The Asolos were built initially from Columbus Cromor and then Dolmen tubing, made especially for Pinarello by Dedacciai, both of which yielded only a touch heavier frames than the Columbus SL & SLX frames ridden by the Pinarello team icons such as Pedro Delgado or Giovanni Battaglin.
This Asolo we believe is from 1991, most likely built from Dedacciai Dolmen tubing, and as finely made as you would expect from one of Italy’s best builders. The black to purple horizontal fade paint is a classic Pinarello look, here matched with chrome forks and drive-side chainstay.

This wonderful 1970s Milan-Sanremo model Coppi, in original condition, is ripe for restoration back to its former glory. An early to mid-1970s model with over-the-BB cable routing, it is finely built by Fiorelli from Columbus tubing with Coppi-branded dropouts and heart cut-out lugs. The model celebrates a famous win in the one-day race by Coppi that kick-started his remarkable career.

Daccordi are a bicycle company with a long history of building bikes but a relatively short one as a brand. Having started in 1937, the business only built frames bearing other companies' names. Focusing on high-end road bikes from the mid-1940s, they made frames for the likes of Viner and Bertoni into the 1980s before building their first eponymous frames in 1981. Daccordi quickly found success with sponsored race teams, and their small-batch, meticulously built frames started to become highly desirable, particularly the high-end Turbo, Mitico, and Griffe models. One of the few Italian thoroughbred constructors still building in Italy today, Daccordi have constantly innovated with titanium, aluminium, and now carbon frames.
Only available from 1991 to 1993, the Mitico was the top-of-the-range frame for the brand during this period, coupling super-light tube sets with lugless construction. Built with Columbus EL and EL OS tubing and fillet brazed, this was a very light and stiff frame made for racing. The unicrown fork was cutting-edge for the time, and in line with its status, the frames were built to order and painted in-house in whatever colourway the customer desired.
Though we suspect this Mitico frame has been refinished, it is in great condition with a bright pillar-box red paint job and contrasting white decals. The unicrown fork, internal cable routing, and quality fillet brazing mark it out as a top-end early '90s bike, built for racing. Though the frame is fairly small, it is super light at just over 2.3 kg for the frame and fork.

Though less well known than fellow Turin-based frame-builder Gios, Paratella has a very highly regarded reputation amongst those in the know. Corrado Paratella was a contemporary of Tulio Campagnolo but left the world of racing to pick up a torch in the 1940s. He focused on making a small number of high-quality bikes rather than expanding his brand and is estimated to have built about 20 bikes per year up until the mid-1980s. Whilst there are only a small number of Paratellas left, each is exquisitely crafted, often with individual details tailored to the customer's requirements.
This lovely blue Paratella frame is built with Reynolds 531 tubing and hand-cut lugs. The twin-plate fork crown, picked out with chrome edges, is a Paratella mainstay. With drilled rear dropouts and a neat brazed-on chain catcher on the chainstay that we have not seen before, this is a unique and highly individual frame.

Ciöcc bagan in the 1970s when ex-racer Giovanni Pelizzoli turned his hand to building high quality frames in Northern Italy. Pelizzoli is considered one of the greatest frame-builders of his generation and many Ciöcc were raced through the 70s and 80s. The top of the range bikes were named after successes in San Cristobel in 1977 and the 1980 Moscow Olympics (the Mockba '80) though there were no doubt many other victories on rebranded Ciöcc frames too as was the norm at the time. Pelizzoli parted company with the brand some time in the 1980s but the company continued building with the knowledge he had imparted to them and they still make bikes (albeit far different ones!) today.
Although this delightfully finished frame has none of the trademark Ciocc pantographs or engravings, the details match those of the Designer 84 model it's badged as. With a very neat black to dark purple metallic fade paint job with chromed rear triangle and fork, this is a very well put together frame. The lugs and small frame details are all in line with other Ciocc frames of the period too. Internal rear brake routing and a braze-on for the front mech date it to the mid 1980s, and it has obviously led an easy life up to now.

Shortly after winning the Giro and the Vuelta in just 48 days, Giovanni Battaglin started his eponymous bike company. Throughout the 1980s and 1990s Battaglin built a small number of high quality frames for professional riders, including Stephen Roche's bikes the year he won the triple crown (two Grand Tours and the World Championships). Giovanni Battaglin is still building beautiful steel bikes by hand from his workshop in Veneto today.
Resplendent in the neon yellow and purple colours of the famous 'Jolly Club 88' team, this racy frameset screams 1980s. Built from Columbus Aelle tubing, and with Battaglin pantographed bottom bracket shell, seatstay caps and fork this could be a classic Italian race bike. The World Champion decals point to it being produced after Stephen Roche's win piloting a Battaglin in 1987.

Like a lot of great cyclists of his time Fausto Coppi decided in the later years of his career that he should have a bike company. He turned to Italian contract builders Fiorelli in 1954 and they agreed to build bikes with the Il Campionissimo's name on. Coppi's last year of professional racing was with the Tricofilina Coppi Team who rode on Fiorelli built, Coppi branded bikes. After Coppi died in 1960 Fiorelli continued to produce bikes for the brand, often with a similar design to those they produced with their own name on. Further success was achieved when Ole Ritter broke the hour record aboard a Fiorelli built Coppi in 1968, and production continued up until 1990 when the Fiorelli factory closed after nearly 60 years of building bikes.
This beautiful and rare Coppi Campionissimo was probably built at the start of the 1960s around the time of the might Fausto Coppi's untimely death. The fully chromed frame with 'chromovelato' varnished over panels still show signs of the world championship bands, and the badge on the fork is of the early design. Built by Fiorelli under contract these frames are very similar to those that Coppi himself rode in his last year of professional cycling. A high end and expensive bike in its time, it would have been kitted out with Campagnolo Record, Universal centre pull brakes and the finest Italian parts available. Today, especially in original condition it is a very rare and collectible frame, ready to built up back to its former glory.

Though branded with Battaglin decals from the late 1980s, this appears to be a curious mix of a Bottecchia built frame with a Berma pantographed fork. The frame lugs carry the distinctive Bottecchia cut out shape, and the internal cable routing is in a style they used too, whilst the fork carries the Berma 'B' on the fork crown. The purple and neon yellow colour scheme is reminiscent of the Team Jolly Componibili colours, who rode on Battaglins in the 80s and 90s. With Campagnolo dropouts front and rear and a slotted bottom bracket this is a well made frame, regardless of its slightly confused identity!

Mino Denti was a great Italian racer who rode for some fantastic teams throughout the 1960s, he would probably be classed as a super-domestique these days as he was often found riding for the bigger names on his team. After his racing career ended in the late 1960s, Mino worked in the management side of professional cycling before taking the well-trodden path to starting his own bicycle business in 1979. Unlike most of his contemporaries, Mino decided he would do the building himself, and whilst there are very few Mino built frames out there, they're all beautifully finished and often sports unusual features such as hand-crimped tubes or bent seat tubes.
At just 48cm, this Mino Denti Mistral is just about as small a vintage road bike frame as you are likely to find. Built from super lightweight Columbus butted tubing and with aerodynamics in mind, it probably dates from the late 1980s. The shifter mounts are located on top of the downtube and the cables are routed into the downtube, then out again by the bottom bracket where they loop round on the outside of the frame to the derailleurs. The most interesting and unique feature here though has to be the Columbus Air flattened fork and chainstays for super aero appeal, and of course the short head tube promotes a streamlined head down/bum up position on the bike.

This extremely eye-catching fully chromed road frameset is branded Marino, which we believe was a small bike shop in Italy. It really is a very nice frame indeed, the long tangs with cut-outs on the fork, head tube and bottom bracket lugs are the kind of subtle attention to detail only master craftsmen bother with. Probably dating from the mid to late 1980s this frame set will build into a real head turner that'll no doubt attract attention, plus it'll sparkle in the sunshine.

We don't charge VAT, however, if buying from outside of the UK please remember that there may be import fees to pay directly to the delivery company before receiving the order. Benotto have an enviable race pedigree having been ridden to World Championship, one day classic and stage race victories by such legends as Francesco Moser and Freddy Maertens. Like other top Italian marques a Benotto is often instantly recognisable by the colour, the ‘Champagne’ grey finish being used for their top bikes for many years. As well as producing finely made race bikes in Italy Benotto produced frames in Mexico and were extremely popular in South America. Benotto are also well known for their shiny bar tape which was available in a wide range of colours and was extremely popular through the 70s and 80s.
Built from Oria's RANF double butted chromoly tube set (similar to Columbus SLX or TSX), this new old stock frame is ready to be built up into a period race machine or retro-mod. With classic Benotto geometry and attention to detail this is a fine example of an Italian frame of the era, with diamond shaped chainstays and internally routed rear brake cable. The model may be a 3000 but the lack of pantographed parts and a frame number make it hard to correctly identify, regardless it's rare to find a frame of this calibre still unbuilt after 30 plus years!
If you're taking part in L'Eroica or a similar vintage event, this frame is of the correct age, so you won't be disqualified for being a rule breaker!
The frame's been carefully checked by one of our mechanics to confirm the alignment's correct and there's no damage to the threads. If there are any minor issues worth noting we will do so in the overview section below.
