Quite possibly the most sought after name on the vintage cycling scene, Colnago earned the status due to the genius of it’s founder, Ernesto Colnago. From the humble beginnings in the 1950s, Colnago became the maker that everyone looked to, and the bike that every cyclist wanted to own. This is likely due to their dominance on the world racing circuit, and in no doubt due to the success of the long standing partnership with the great Eddy Merckx.
The Colnago Super is the model that put Colnago on the map in 1968, and it was the bike Eddy Merckx rode to many victories, most famously under the bright orange colour of the Molteni team. It may be hard to imagine now but the Colnago Super revolutionised racing frame design, Ernesto saw away with the heavyweight tubing and sluggish geometry and introduced a lighter, stiffer and shorter frame that made champions even bigger champions, and continued doing so for over 20 years. It truly is the frame that changed the game.
This frame dates from 1978 and shows why the marque is so revered in the vintage bike world; light weight, race-bred design and a wonderful finish. The dark grey into white fade with chrome fork and ¾ rear triangle make a really classy looking bike, and the recessed brakes and world beating geometry make it a more modern bike to ride than others of the same age. A stone-cold classic.
If you're taking part in L'Eroica or any other vintage event, this frame is of the correct age, so you won't be disqualified for being a rule breaker!
The frame's been carefully checked by one of our mechanics to confirm the alignment's correct and there's no damage to the threads. If there are any minor issues worth noting we will do so in the overview section below. Please take a good look at the detailed photos so you can see the cosmetic condition of the frame before you buy.
