From the start Koga set out to be a high-end, luxury bicycle brand, and their quest for high quality frames and parts led them to Japan and a partnership with Miyata. Their other Japanese connection was with Shimano, and Koga Miyata's high end bikes were always specced with Dura-Ace, they also sponsored the IJsboerke and Capri-Sonne professional teams who rode on catalogue spec versions of their top end bikes. In the mid 80s Koga Miyata started to get involved in the increasingly popular MTB market and their technologically advanced bikes proved to be succesful in bike showrooms and with the eccentric Greg Herbold who won the inaugral Downhill World Championshps.
The Proracer was a stalwart in the Koga Miyata bike line-up from the late 70s to the late 80s. Usually sat just below the top of the range bike the Proracer was a high specced, lightweight bike designed to be raced and was widely used by amateur (and some professional!) teams. A high quality lugged steel frame built from Tange Champion or Koga's own FM1-Hardlite tubing they were usually found specced with Shimano's top of the range Dura-Ace groupset.
Finished in team blue this 1982 Proracer is in great original condition, with a few marks from use as pictured. Built from high end Tange Champion double butted tubing in their race-winning geometry this is a light bike designed to be ridden quickly. Despite its raciness the frame has pretty good clearances and is not as aggressive as bikes became in the mid to late 80s, meaning it will build up into something comfy and practical if needed.
If you're taking part in L'Eroica or a similar vintage event, this frame is of the correct age, so you won't be disqualified for being a rule breaker!
The frame's been carefully checked by one of our mechanics to confirm the alignment's correct and there's no damage to the threads. If there are any minor issues worth noting we will do so in the overview section below. Please take a good look at the detailed photos so you can see the cosmetic condition of the frame before you buy.OVERVIEW
