53cm Dilecta 1950s Vintage Step-Through Town/City Bike
Dilecta are one of the lesser known french marques, most likely due to the demise of production during the 1950s. The company began life way back during 1913 in central France. As was the fashion back then, they built both bicycles & motorcycles, and during the first half of the 20th century Dilecta were the sponsors of a successful racing team, winning many titles including Paris-Roubaix, Tour of Flanders & Paris-Le Havre.
After the unfortunate assassination of the company's founder Albert Chichery, in 1944, this bicycle maker began to fade into history as it finally closed its doors in 1956.
This step-through bike would have once been billed as a 'Tourisme' model, sporting a Simplex 3 speed rear gear system, we doubt there are many riders out there who'd venture out touring on a bike like this, so we decided to leave this as a single geared bike, just the way it was when we bought it. The rest of the bike is mostly original, including the fascinating Jeay Model M brakes and ornate pieces such as the branded chainguard, stunning aluminium mudguards & original (working!) dynamo lights.
As with all our bikes, it's been fully stripped, inspected & professionally polished & re-built. The frame is straight & true without any dents or dings - please inspect the photos for cosmetic condition as we photograph the bikes so you can see the exact condition of the bike before purchasing.
