Lexpres was a small cycle shop in Antwerp, Belgium that built (or had built for them) bikes bearing their name in the late 1970s and early 1980s. There are very few examples of their bikes still in circulation, but it seems that track bikes were a speciality.
It is built from lightweight but strong Ishiwata 022 tubing with Shimano horizontal dropouts and Bocama lugs, and is not drilled for a brake. The frame is stamped '77' on the bottom bracket shell which given the frame details suggest this could well be the year of manufacture. With it's original paintwork and transfers this classic frameset is ready to be built up and put back to work on the boards.

Mino Denti was a great Italian racer who rode for some fantastic teams throughout the 1960s, he would probably be classed as a super-domestique these days as he was often found riding for the bigger names on his team. After his racing career ended in the late 1960s, Mino worked in the management side of professional cycling before taking the well-trodden path to starting his own bicycle business in 1979. Unlike most of his contemporaries, Mino decided he would do the building himself, and whilst there are very few Mino built frames out there, they're all beautifully finished and often sports unusual features such as hand-crimped tubes or bent seat tubes.
At just 48cm, this Mino Denti Mistral is just about as small a vintage road bike frame as you are likely to find. Built from super lightweight Columbus butted tubing and with aerodynamics in mind, it probably dates from the late 1980s. The shifter mounts are located on top of the downtube and the cables are routed into the downtube, then out again by the bottom bracket where they loop round on the outside of the frame to the derailleurs. The most interesting and unique feature here though has to be the Columbus Air flattened fork and chainstays for super aero appeal, and of course the short head tube promotes a streamlined head down/bum up position on the bike.

South London's finest, Roberts Cycles are known the world over but have a particular cache as a classy frame-builder in the UK. Charlie Roberts honed his craft building frames post-war for various London brands, including Claud Butler and Holdsworth, but decided to strike out on his own in the 1960s. Later, his sons Chas and Geoff were passed the torch. With Charlie's passing in the late '70s, Chas took over the management of the company, and Geoff built alongside Derek Bailey, producing more and more custom road, track, pursuit, and touring frames to an increasing number of admirers. In the early '80s, Winston Vaz joined and spearheaded the production of their mountain bike frames, notably the White Spider and D.O.G.S B.O.L.L.O.X. The brand is now highly sought after by collectors.
This lightweight 1991-built frame is a lovely example of the restrained but well-made custom frames coming out of Roberts' workshop at the time. Made from Reynolds 531 Professional, Reynolds' lightest version of the 531 tube set, it was recommended for racing only due to its thin walls. As was the fashion at the time, the frame has an internally routed rear brake cable, close clearances, and a Cinelli 'spoiler' BB. We suspect the frame has had a fairly recent repaint, as it is in lovely condition with a nice contrasting black and red colour scheme.

Daccordi are a bicycle company with a long history of building bikes but a relatively short one as a brand. Having started in 1937, the business only built frames bearing other companies' names. Focusing on high-end road bikes from the mid-1940s, they made frames for the likes of Viner and Bertoni into the 1980s before building their first eponymous frames in 1981. Daccordi quickly found success with sponsored race teams, and their small-batch, meticulously built frames started to become highly desirable, particularly the high-end Turbo, Mitico, and Griffe models. One of the few Italian thoroughbred constructors still building in Italy today, Daccordi have constantly innovated with titanium, aluminium, and now carbon frames.
Only available from 1991 to 1993, the Mitico was the top-of-the-range frame for the brand during this period, coupling super-light tube sets with lugless construction. Built with Columbus EL and EL OS tubing and fillet brazed, this was a very light and stiff frame made for racing. The unicrown fork was cutting-edge for the time, and in line with its status, the frames were built to order and painted in-house in whatever colourway the customer desired.

Specialized began in the mid 70s when Mike Sinyard began importing hard to find Italian bike parts into the USA, their first branded product was a touring tyre and their first bike range in 1981 included a touring bike, a road bike and the first production mountain bike, the StumpJumper. Being first to mass produce the MTB proved to be a master stroke and the business grew rapidly as the niche sport came to dominate worldwide cycle sales through the 80s and 90s. As one of the first companies to mass produce and develop carbon fibre as a frame material, Specialized began to dominate the road market too, their successes across road, MTB and Cross racing is unparalleled.
Introduced in 1987, the HardRock was Specialized's foray into the entry level mountain bike market. Having been the first brand to mass produce mountain bikes they went on to lead the race scene with the StumpJumper Team and then offered the more affordable range of RockHopper bikes, and the HardRock used the DNA from these bikes at a lower price point. With frames made to their design and some Specialized branded parts made in Taiwan rather than Japan to keep the cost down, the HardRock sold extremely well and is still a staple of the Specialized MTB line-up now.
In original condition with '80s graphics over the red paint, this 1987 model was made in Taiwan with a custom-gauge steel frame that offers comfort and strength. With a full complement of braze-ons for mudguards and racks, and two sets of bottle cage bosses, this is ideal for repurposing as a touring or commuter bike.

Though branded with Battaglin decals from the late 1980s, this appears to be a curious mix of a Bottecchia built frame with a Berma pantographed fork. The frame lugs carry the distinctive Bottecchia cut out shape, and the internal cable routing is in a style they used too, whilst the fork carries the Berma 'B' on the fork crown. The purple and neon yellow colour scheme is reminiscent of the Team Jolly Componibili colours, who rode on Battaglins in the 80s and 90s. With Campagnolo dropouts front and rear and a slotted bottom bracket this is a well made frame, regardless of its slightly confused identity!

These lovely quality 'Donna' dropped top tube race frames have never been finished or built up, and are available here in their raw state ready for painting. With their internal cable routing, fine lug-work and neat finishing they were obviously built by a talented frame shop, although we are unsure exactly who this was. The frames also feature downtube shifter bosses, a braze on front mech mount, neat dynamo light cable guides, mudguard eyelets and a pump peg. Chromed on the rear dropouts and drive side chainstay, and with a chromed fork they will look fantastic with a single colour or more adventurous paint job.

Famed first and foremost for her wheel-building, Pat Hanlon was an extraordinary woman in the predominantly man's world of post-war bike racing and building. Pat started her first shop just down the road from Pedal Pedlar HQ in Tottenham in 1957, continuing to build wheels for world champions and local racers alike, introducing a range of frames bearing her name in 1960 built by the legendary Vic Edwards. Later frames were also built by other well known London builder's Les Ephgrave and Tom Board. Those who are still lucky enough to own a pair of Pat's original wheels are no doubt carefully looking after them!
This frame has an interesting mix of features that make it hard to place time-wise. The Campagnolo 1060 semi-horizontal dropouts and clamp-on down tube shifter pip all point to late 60s/early 70s but the under bottom bracket cable routing and allen key brake fixings suggest later, likely the back end of the 1970s. Regardless, the lug work is very nicely done and the frame is nice and light, especially considering the clearance for wider tyres and mudguard eyelets.

Though not well known outside of Switzerland, Hans Ulrich Moser's 'Moser Radsport' of Bern was the place to go for a high-end road bike in the 1970s and '80s. The frames were designed by Moser and built in Italy by contract builder Renato Negri (formerly of Pogliaghi), who was also at the time building the highly regarded Freschi and Gianni Motta frames. With wonderful attention to detail and a high-end, subtle finish, these were some of the best custom road frames available in Switzerland at the time.
Probably built in the late 1980s, this great-looking Moser frame was built in Italy by famed contract builder Renato Negri. It is likely to be made from Columbus SL tubing, with internal brake routing, fastback seat stays, and a minimal semi-sloping fork crown—it looks quick even when stood still. The pillar-box red powder coat over a fully chromed frame is in great condition and just adds to the '80s Italian go-fast look.

Sportivo Bavikhove is a racing bike specialist shop in Belgium started by local former professional Lieven Malfiet. In the early 80s Sportivo began importing frames from Italy to brand as their own and the frame details from this bike suggest it is one of the earlier bikes they sold. With cut-out lugs, a slotted BB and Campagnolo droupouts this frame is well put together, the chromed fork and headtube lugs and drive side chainstay give it a classic look too.

Benotto have an enviable race pedigree having been ridden to World Championship, one day classic and stage race victories by such legends as Francesco Moser and Freddy Maertens. Like other top Italian marques a Benotto is often instantly recognisable by the colour, the ‘Champagne’ grey finish being used for their top bikes for many years. As well as producing finely made race bikes in Italy Benotto produced frames in Mexico and were extremely popular in South America. Benotto are also well known for their shiny bar tape which was available in a wide range of colours and was extremely popular through the 70s and 80s.
Built from Oria's RANF double butted chromoly tube set (similar to Columbus SLX or TSX), this new old stock frame is ready to be built up into a period race machine or retro-mod. With classic Benotto geometry and attention to detail this is a fine example of an Italian frame of the era, with diamond shaped chainstays and internally routed rear brake cable. The model may be a 3000 but the lack of pantographed parts and a frame number make it hard to correctly identify, regardless it's rare to find a frame of this calibre still unbuilt after 30 plus years!

The Professional was the name given to the high end race frames built by Batavus through the 1970s, 80s and into the 90s. They were available in a wide range of tube sets and configurations throughout that period, and often built from the top tube sets from Reynolds (531C and 531P) or Columbus, including SL, SP and SLX. The frames were a direct competitor to the famous Gazelle Champion Mondial, and they stand up rather well we must say.
This particular Professional is probably from the mid to late 1980s, built from Reynolds 531 'Professional' (or 531P) which was the lightest version of 531 available at the time. This frame is also built with the neat minimal Cinelli fork crown, a Dardanne BB shell and Campagnolo dropouts, resulting in a very well put together frame.

Shortly after winning the Giro and the Vuelta in just 48 days, Giovanni Battaglin started his eponymous bike company. Throughout the 1980s and 1990s Battaglin built a small number of high quality frames for professional riders, including Stephen Roche's bikes the year he won the triple crown (two Grand Tours and the World Championships). Giovanni Battaglin is still building beautiful steel bikes by hand from his workshop in Veneto today.
Resplendent in the neon yellow and purple colours of the famous 'Jolly Club 88' team, this racy frameset screams 1980s. Built from Columbus Aelle tubing, and with Battaglin pantographed bottom bracket shell, seatstay caps and fork this could be a classic Italian race bike. The World Champion decals point to it being produced after Stephen Roche's win piloting a Battaglin in 1987.

With a history spanning almost a century, and with both world and Italian national champion wins, Berma are perhaps not as widely known as they should be. Hailing from Padova, Italy, Berma built very fine frames in the Italian race tradition - lightweight, aggressive, beautiful and often bedecked in the finest Italian parts from the period. Legendary contract builders Billato built for the brand during their early years too.
This Berma Professional is probably from the 1980s and is built from Italian Oria TT 0.9 tubing. The red and white graphic paint job is typically Italian and of the time, the contrasting chrome forks and drive side chainstay show great attention to detail. This is a classic Italian frameset in a smaller size and will make a vintage (or maybe even neo-retro!) build.
