Viner started out just after the end of the Second World War in the city of Pistoia near Florence. In the 1960s Viner started to sponsor professional teams and had some success on the international race circuit, propelling the Dutch national team to victory at the 1978 World Championships. The company also had a good deal of success exporting their frames into Europe and building bikes for other brands, notably the British distributor SABA who sold the finest Italian equipment throughout the UK in the 1970s and 80s.
This small and very light frameset is labelled as a Special Professional, Viner's top of the line frame. The frame has star cutouts in the top of the fork and Viner pantographs on the seat stay caps, plus a chromed fork and rear end. All of the details point to a 1980s frame, more than likely built from Columbus SL the frame and fork are very light and will build into a wonderful classic race machine. High quality frames in this small size are rare to find, and although the paint and decals are well worn (it certainly could be a candidate for a refinish), it'll still build into a fantastic little race bike.
If you're taking part in L'Eroica or a similar vintage event, this frame is of the correct age, so you won't be disqualified for being a rule breaker!
The frame's been carefully checked by one of our mechanics to confirm the alignment's correct and there's no damage to the threads. If there are any minor issues worth noting we will do so in the overview section below. Please take a good look at the detailed photos so you can see the cosmetic condition of the frame before you buy.
